What inspires me

I have always loved working with cloth and stitch. I love my studio and being surrounded by collections and triggers to my creativity. Mainly I handstitch and work develops whilst making. I try out lots of ideas then I compose, putting elements together. I love the excitement of work coming together at the end.

I use neutral colour because I am fascinated by transparency, subtle changes in surface, edge, structure. I am always learning and trying to take risks within the work I produce.

Making in the Midlands

I was born in South Staffordshire, went to art school in Birmingham and live and have my studio in Stafford. Place is important and I am grounded in the Midlands.

The industrial landscape captivates me and the strong contrasts feed me visually. The central location is ideal for freelance work as well.

What has changed most about the crafts in the last thirty years

Communications. The ability to market yourself single-handedly through the internet.
